Skip Hire FAQs

What counts as garden waste?

Garden waste includes grass cuttings, leaves, hedge trimmings, small branches, plants, bark, and soil (if not contaminated with rubble or plastics). Basically, anything natural that comes from your garden!

Can I put soil and turf in a garden skip?

Yes, soil and turf are accepted — just make sure they’re free from bricks, hardcore, or other building materials. If you’re unsure, get in touch and we’ll guide you.

Do I need a permit for garden skip hire?

Only if the skip will be placed on a public road. If it's going on private land like your driveway or garden, no permit is needed. We can arrange permits for you if required.

What skip size is best for garden waste?

For light garden clearances, a 4-yard skip is usually enough. Larger jobs like landscaping or tree removals may need a 6 or 8-yard skip. Use our postcode tool for tailored advice.

How long can I keep a skip for?

The standard skip hire period is 28 days, but we offer flexible hire durations to suit your needs. If you need a skip for longer, let us know when booking.

What is Wait and Load skip hire?

This service lets you load your garden waste straight into the skip while our driver waits — no need to keep a skip on-site or apply for a permit. The first 30 minutes are included for free.

What happens to my garden waste after collection?

We aim to recycle or compost as much as possible — typically over 95%. Your green waste is processed responsibly to minimise environmental impact and reduce landfill use.

What if it rains while I’m filling the skip with garden waste?

A bit of rain won’t hurt, but wet garden waste like soil or grass can become heavy quickly. Try to cover the skip with a tarpaulin if heavy rain is expected to avoid exceeding weight limits, especially with soil or turf.
